Save for retirement or any goal you may have, tax-free.
Save for retirement or borrow funds from your RRSP for the Home Buyers’ Plan and Lifelong Learning Plan if you repay the money within a specified period.
Eligibility

• Minimum age of 18 years old. ​
 • Have a SIN number. 
​ • Canadian resident.

• Must be less than 71 years old. • Canadian resident. • Have earned income.

Contribution Limits
$7,000 + any contribution room from previous years since you turned 18 years old or since 2009 (whichever is more recent).

18% of your income earned from last year + any unused contributions from past years to a certain cap*. ​ *: Cap for 2023 tax year, is $30,780.

Withdrawals
Tax free and get the contribution room back the following year.

*Pre-RRIF Conversion*: Pay withholding tax and lose the contribution room permanently.

Taxes

• Shelters income and capital appreciation earned from tax. ​ • Non-tax-deductible contributions. ​
 • Withdrawals are tax-free.

• Shelters income earned from tax. ​
 • Tax-deductible contributions. ​
 • Withholding tax for withdrawals pre-conversion to RRIF. 
​ • Withdrawals are taxable at your annual marginal tax rate for the year you withdraw.
